Overview

Web2Audio is a Chrome extension that converts webpage content into AI-powered podcast summaries using premium Google Text-to-Speech voices. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Your information isn't and has never been sold to third parties. We only work with trusted service providers necessary to deliver our core functionality.

What Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication details through Firebase Auth. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile picture.

Usage Data

We track the number of text-to-speech generations per user to enforce usage limits for free and paid plans. Usage statistics are retained for billing purposes and service analytics.

Content Processing

Webpage content is temporarily processed for summarization and speech generation. This content is sent to our AI services but is not permanently stored by Web2Audio.

Extension Permissions

The extension requires activeTab permission to read webpage content only when you click generate, storage permission for your authentication and preferences, and identity permission for Google OAuth sign-in.

Third Party Service Integrations

When you use Web2Audio, you authorize us to share designated information and data created and/or uploaded by you to our server with these third-party services on your behalf. Web2Audio's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We only process your content through these services to deliver our core functionality - no data is shared for advertising or other purposes.

What Vendors/Sub-processors Do We Use?

Google Services

  • Firebase: User authentication, database storage, and account management. Generated audio files are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage with automatic retention management based on your subscription plan (Free: 20 generations/30 days, Starter: 100 generations/90 days, Pro: 500 generations/1 year). Older content is automatically deleted to maintain service performance.
  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech: Premium voice synthesis for audio generation
  • Google Gemini: AI-powered text summarization and content processing
  • Google OAuth: Secure sign-in when you choose to use Google authentication

All Google services comply with Google's privacy policies and security standards.

Stripe

Payment processing for paid subscriptions. Stripe is PCI compliant and handles all payment data securely. We never store credit card information on our servers.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Database storage is encrypted at rest
  • Access to user data is restricted and monitored
  • Regular security audits and updates

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Modification: Update or correct your account information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data

Data Retention and Deletion

Retention Periods

  • Audio files: Automatically managed based on your subscription plan: Free Plan (20 generations, 30 days), Starter Plan (100 generations, 90 days), Pro Plan (500 generations, 1 year). Older content is automatically deleted when limits are exceeded to maintain optimal service performance.
  • Usage statistics: Retained for billing periods plus 1 year for financial record keeping
  • Account data: Retained until account deletion is requested

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the extension settings. Upon account deletion:

  • Your account data is immediately marked for deletion
  • Personal information is removed from our active systems within 30 days
  • Audio files are permanently deleted from Cloud Storage
  • Backups containing your data are purged within 90 days
  • Usage statistics may be retained in anonymized form for analytics

Automatic Data Management

To maintain service performance and manage storage costs, we automatically manage your generated content:

  • Rolling Storage: When you exceed your plan's generation limit, the oldest content is automatically deleted
  • Time-Based Cleanup: Content older than your plan's retention period is automatically removed
  • Continuous Access: You always have access to your most recent generations within your plan limits
  • No Manual Action Required: All cleanup happens automatically in the background

Important: If you wish to preserve specific content beyond these retention periods, please download the audio files locally before they are automatically removed.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify users of significant changes through the extension or via email. Your continued use of Web2Audio after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
